The Illuminati is the name used for several groups, real and fictitious. Most commonly it refers specifically to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment secret society. However, in the realm of conspiracy theory it refers to a purported shadowy conspiratorial organization which is reputed to secretly control world affairs, usually a modern incarnation or continuation of the Bavarian Illuminati. In this conspiratorial context, Illuminati is often used in reference to a New World Order (NWO). Conspiracy theorists believe the Illuminati (The People of The Light), or illuminated ones, are the masterminds behind events that will lead to a New World Order with Biblical Repercussions.

The secret society of the 'Illuminati' or the 'Illuminated Ones' dates back to the 1st of May 1776 in Ingolstadt, where a Jesuit-taught Adam Weishaupt founded the secret society. The group has been known as the 'Illuminated Order' and the 'Bavarian Illuminati'
In modern society the 'Illuminati' is believed by some to have risen to power and is currently behind the world banks and Governments.

They are often connected to the higher ranks in Freemasonry, Lucifier and Occult Worship, beliving that humans can enlighten themselves to become God. There goal is similar to the UN's and Americas Goal of bringing the world to a 'New World Order', a order that conspiracy theorists claim will wipe out coulture and religion bringing humanity under a Global Dictatorship. Some Christians may take the 'Illuminati' as paving the way for the 'Mark Of The Beast' and 'Satan' to take its place in Humanity.
